  • Norway’s ADS Maritime Holding has bounced back from a failed deal to invest in three LR2s with a new transaction involving famed shipowner Peter Georgiopoulos. Oslo-listed ADS said it has acquired a 10% stake in two MR tankers and will act as the disponent owner with primary responsibility for following up on the owning companies’ activities related to the vessels. The 50,000-dwt UOG Sparta (built 2009) is part of the 22-ship fleet acquired by Georgiopoulos when he bought Dubai-based United Arab Chemical Carriers (UACC) in 2021. The tanker will be delivered in the Pacific and traded in the spot market. The vessel is worth nearly $24m. The UOG Sparta was sold by Top Ships of Greece in 2013 for $31.3m, including a charter. The UACC transaction marked Georgiopoulos’ return to the shipping stage after the first hiatus of a 30-year career. He had been out of shipping since Euronav’s June 2018 takeover of his Gener8 Maritime. The 46,100-dwt Swift Omaha (built 2010) meanwhile will be renamed UOG Oslo, the prefix of Georgiopoulos and Leo Vrondissis’ United Overseas Group (UOG). Delivery is set for October and the aim is to employ the tanker on a two-year time charterer. Discussions have started with “major charterers” in a market seeing rising rates. The vessel is owned by Swiftbulk of the US and has operated in the Maersk MR pool. Swiftbulk acquired the Swift Omaha for $18.7m from Glencore's ST Shipping in 2019. The commercial manager is evaluating the market to find the best possible charter contracts for the ships to maximise shareholders’ value, ADS said. “The acquisition is part of the company’s strategy of opportunistic growth in shipping, including the tanker market,” the company added. Earlier in September, ADS failed to pull off a new LR2/aframax tanker investment after the seller pulled out. The revived Oslo-listed company had been in talks since at least June to take a 20% stake in three 13 and 14-year-old Chinese-built vessels. The Bjorn Tore Larsen-chaired owner had announced a sale-and-leaseback deal had been struck and the contracts would be signed “shortly”. Instead, ADS said on 2 September it had been notified by the deal manager that the seller had withdrawn from the transaction. ADS sold three veteran VLCCs more than 18 months ago and raised NOK 100m ($10m) in July via a share sale, with the cash earmarked for more acquisitions. The company has signed a letter of intent in connection with the construction of two LNG carriers, and has taken stakes in shuttle tankers, a VLCC and an MR.

Negotiations are taking place in good fate, but completion can not be guarantied LNGC Project • ADSMH (the “Company”) has signed a letter of intent in connection with the construction of 2 x LNG carriers (the “Project”) • The Company’s intended role for the Project is to provide management services to the “Owner” of the LNGC’s, a large financial investor. • As the intended Project develops, the Owner will provide the Company with an option to buy a minority stake in the LNGC owning subsidiaries.
