Et aktivt aksjefond med h\u00f8y historisk avkastning eller et gr\u00e5tt og traust indeksfond? Det er valgets kvaler. Faktum er at lite forskning er gjort p\u00e5 dette i Norge. Og frontene er steile. P\u00e5 den enes siden er bankene og forvalterne, som mest av alt fors\u00f8ker \u00e5 f\u00e5 bevisene til \u00e5 leve opp til egne \u00f8nsker. P\u00e5 den andre siden er akademia nesten like dogmatiske p\u00e5 at aktive fond ikke kan l\u00f8nne seg.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kundene fortjener \u00e5 vite. De aktive fondene har tross alt 5-6 ganger s\u00e5 h\u00f8ye gebyrer. Jeg har derfor \u2013 p\u00e5 vegne av Forbrukerr\u00e5det – gjort en omfattende analyse av aktive aksjefonds utvikling de siste 20 \u00e5rene, i kategoriene Global, Norge, Norden og Europa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5lene kundene beh\u00f8ver svar p\u00e5:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Sl\u00e5r de aktive aksjefondene referanseindeksen som gruppe?<\/li>
  2. Sl\u00e5r de aktive aksjefondene indeksfondene som gruppe?<\/li>
  3. Uavhengig av overst\u00e5ende, er det mulig \u00e5 plukke ut enkeltfond som forventes \u00e5 sl\u00e5 indeksfondene?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Tabellen nedenfor viser resultatet i Forbrukerr\u00e5dets unders\u00f8kelse. Prosenten viser gjennomsnittlig \u00e5rlig avkastning i forhold til b\u00f8rsen, det vil si m\u00e5lt mot det enkeltes fonds referanseindeks. Et negativt tall betyr at fondene i kategorien har gitt svakere avkastning enn b\u00f8rsen, mens positivt tall angir h\u00f8yere avkastning enn b\u00f8rsen. Norge-fondene sl\u00e5r b\u00f8rsen, globale fond gj\u00f8r det ikke. Alle tall er etter kostnader og gebyrer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u00c5rlig differanseavkastning i overst\u00e5ende tabell b\u00f8r sammenlignes mot gjennomsnittlige gebyr i indeksfond. Tross alt er de f\u00e6rreste indeksfondene gratis. Tabellen nedenfor viser i prinsippet den negative differanseavkastningen du kan forvente av et gjennomsnittlig indeksfond gir (tenk deg et minustegn foran gebyret).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Globale fond sl\u00e5r ikke b\u00f8rsen<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Resultatene for de aktive aksjefondene b\u00f8r sees i lys av den gjengse oppfatning av hvilke fondskategorier det er mest hensiktsmessig \u00e5 investere i. Det er konsensus i akademia og blant bankenes forbruker\u00f8konomer om at globale fond er \u00e5 foretrekke p\u00e5 grunn av den store risikospredningen, og det er til dels enighet om at forbrukerne kan vurdere et innslag av norsk fond. Derfor er resultatet for disse to kategoriene mest relevant for forbrukerne, og da s\u00e6rlig globale fond. Globale aksjefond omtales gjerne som \u00abskal du bare eie ett aksjefond, velg globalt.\u00bb Norge er mer egnet for den spekulative investor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Resultatet for de aktive globale fondene i unders\u00f8kelsen er nedsl\u00e5ende. Differanseavkastningen er negativ med god margin (-0,89 prosent) for de globale fondene m\u00e5lt som gruppe. De aktive globale fondene taper \u00e5rlig 0,89 prosent m\u00e5lt mot b\u00f8rsen (fondenes referanseindeks). Fondene taper ogs\u00e5 mot indeksfondenes \u00e5rlige gebyr. En sensitivitetsanalyse viser dessuten at resultatet er robust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Norge-fondene sl\u00e5r b\u00f8rsen<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    De aktive Norge-fondene (norske aksjefond) kommer derimot bra ut. Som gruppe har fondene gitt forbrukerne 0,86 prosent i positiv differanseavkastning etter gebyrer og kostnader. N\u00e5r forbrukerne vurderer et Norge-fond, kan de derfor velge et aktivt fond. Likevel b\u00f8r forbruker vektlegge gebyrene p\u00e5 aktive Norge-fond mer enn historisk avkastning. Det er nemlig lite som underst\u00f8tter at et spesifikt aktivt aksjefond med h\u00f8yere historisk avkastning enn de \u00f8vrige i fondskategorien ogs\u00e5 gir h\u00f8yere avkastning i neste periode. V\u00e6r prisbevisst ogs\u00e5 n\u00e5r du velger et aktivt aksjefond!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Europa og Norden<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Europa-fondene og Norden-fondene viser negativ differanseavkastning. Men disse to kategoriene faller utenfor det r\u00e5dende synet p\u00e5 hvilke fond som gir best risikospredning. Resultatene er derfor mindre relevante for den gjengse sparer. Tallene for Norden er dessuten mer usikre enn for de \u00f8vrige kategorier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hva med globale fond med god historikk?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Globale aksjefond flopper som gruppe. Men enkelte globale fond i gruppen stikker seg ut med h\u00f8yere avkastning enn referanseindeksen. Det leder oss videre til sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5let om disse enkeltst\u00e5ende fondene kan forventes \u00e5 gi bedre avkastning enn referanseindeksen ogs\u00e5 i fremtiden. Men beregninger jeg har utf\u00f8rt i rapporten viser at det ikke er en sammenheng her. Et globalt fond som sl\u00e5r b\u00f8rsen i en periode, taper like gjerne mot b\u00f8rsen i neste periode. Korrelasjon var tiln\u00e6rmet lik null. Ogs\u00e5 eksterne unders\u00f8kelser jeg viser til i rapporten konkluderer likedan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Bankene b\u00f8r vise sine analyser<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Bankene har gjennomg\u00e5ende anbefalt kundene \u00e5 kj\u00f8pe de aktive fondene. Underforst\u00e5tt har bankene ment at kundene kan forvente bedre avkastning av aktive aksjefond enn indeksfond (banken har et juridisk r\u00e5dgivningsansvar). S\u00e6rlig har sparebankene lenge vist en uvilje mot \u00e5 ha indeksfond i varesortimentet. Det kan ikke utelukkes at bankene har egne analyser av fundert p\u00e5 god metodikk som viser motsatt resultat av mine beregninger. Men jeg har likevel vondt for \u00e5 lande p\u00e5 en slik sjener\u00f8s tolkning; totalt sett er det mye som trekker i helt andre retninger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Metodikk<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    157 aksjefond rettet mot norske personkunder er unders\u00f8kt, med totalt 2084 observasjoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    M\u00e5leperioden er de siste 20 kalender\u00e5r, fra og med 1998 til 2017. Sensitivitetsanalysen strekker seg tilbake 25 \u00e5r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Avkastningen m\u00e5les ved Morningstars \u00abTotal return\u00bb, som baserer seg p\u00e5 NAV-verdiene (Net Asset Value). Avkastningstallene er ikke kapital-vektet. Hvert \u00e5r med avkastning teller likt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    S\u00e5kalt \u00absurvivial bias\u00bb er hensyntatt. Det betyr at nedlagte aksjefond er med i unders\u00f8kelsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    M\u00e5ling om enkeltst\u00e5ende overpresterende globale fond, ogs\u00e5 kan forventes \u00e5 gjenta suksess i neste m\u00e5leperiode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Differanseavkastningen for hvert \u00e5r er m\u00e5lt p\u00e5 f\u00f8lgende m\u00e5te: Fondets prosentvise avkastning for ett \u00e5r, dividert p\u00e5 referanseindeksens prosentvise avkastning for samme \u00e5r. Deretter beregnes den naturlige logaritmen (ln).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Fondets oppgitte referanseindeks er benyttet for de aller fleste fondene. Enkelte fonds oppgitte referanseindeks mangler i Morningstar Direct, og da er referanseindeksen som flest fond i kategorien benytter, anvendt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
